Postdoctoral Opportunity Medical Imaging
Postgraduate Training Program in Medical Imaging and Noninvasive Brain Stimulation
Position:
The Gordon Center for Medical Imaging in the Department of Radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Harvard Medical School (HMS) in Boston, MA, has an opening at the postdoctoral level to work on research related to quantitative image reconstruction and analysis, with applications for noninvasive brain stimulation and neuromodulation. The position is part of a T32 NIH training grant, Postgraduate Training Program in Medical Imaging (PTPMI), which addresses unmet needs in medical imaging technology as it pertains to normal and pathophysiological functions. PTPMI provides a multidisciplinary approach to training with customized, diverse mentoring with exciting research opportunities for the new generation of diverse imaging scientists.
Qualifications:
Applicants should have earned a Ph.D. in mathematics, physics, engineering, neuroscience, or a related field. Physiologists, System Biologists, and physicians interested in quantitative imaging physiology and/or brain stimulation are also encouraged to apply. Strong analytical and quantitative skills, as well as proficiency in computer programming, are essential, including Python and Matlab programming languages. The successful candidate will have joint appointments at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School and will work under the supervision of Georges El Fakhri (Ph.D., DABR, director of the Gordon Center for Medical Imaging) for projects concerning medical imaging and Emiliano Santarnecchi (Ph.D.) with regard to image-guided noninvasive brain stimulation including Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and transcranial Alternating Current Stimulation (tACS).
Environment:
The Department of Radiology offers extensive core research facilities, including a new digital time-of-flight PET/CT scanner, brain, and whole body PET/MRI scanners, and small animal PET/SPECT/CT systems. Studies on these imaging systems are supported by the MGH Gordon PET Core’s fully equipped blood/radiometabolite processing laboratory, on-site cyclotron, dedicated research radiochemistry laboratories, and a world-class GMP radiopharmacy. The Gordon Center maintains a substantial large-scale shared memory computing facility for parametric image analysis, tomographic reconstruction, Monte Carlo simulation, and other computationally intensive research applications. The Precision Neuroscience & Neuromodulation Program at GCMI is focused on image-guided neuromodulation targeting network dynamics in the healthy and pathological brain, with particular emphasis on computational and biophysical modeling to develop personalized treatment protocols. The successful applicant can interact collaboratively with a large (140+) growing research group in diverse areas of imaging technology and applications.
The Gordon Center has extensive independent and collaborative research programs and conducts studies in mice, rats, porcine models, nonhuman primates, and human subjects. This announcement focuses on mapping membrane potential and receptor imaging in dementia, as well as image-guided noninvasive brain stimulation applications in humans.
